Sarah Kucera

Lék (pronounced “leck”) is a Czech word that means medicine, remedy, or cure. It captures the nature of Sarah’s work while simultaneously paying homage to her roots. Though it was many generations ago that immigrated from Bohemia to Iowa, her upbringing was full of reminders of where her family is from, like kolaches, rohliks, Czech polka music, and a grandfather that liked to greet her by saying, “Jak se mas?” (to which she would reply, “Dobry!”). Sarah doesn’t speak Czech, aside from the token words and phrases one first learns in a language, still she felt a strong connection to this word and its translation. Sarah felt naming her business “Lék” added a layer of authenticity, something at the heart of her values and work.
